The Devil's Arithmetic a 166 page novel by Jane Yolen is telling the story of a Hannah,a young girl, who travels back in time to during the Holocaust in place of a girl named Chaya. On the way to Chaya's uncle's weddeing she and all the other Jews are pursued by Nazis who tell them that they are being "resettled" and need to climd aboard theirNazis trucks. When the trucks finally stop moving the Nazis tell the Jews to get out and give all their possetions worth anything to them for "safekeeping". After, the Nazis herd them into the tiny cattle cars that will carry them off to their new homes, in other words the concentration camp, where some of the Jews will meet their horrible end. In the end Chaya saves her best-friends life in the concentration camp by dying her place. When Hannah dies in the concentration camp she wakes up at her Aunt Eva's for Passover with her families eager faces surrounding her. The Devil's Arithmetic is a great story and I recomend it to anyone intersted in historical fictionor or in adventure.
